Internal medicine internship at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists (Alton)
We are excited to open a 12-month discipline specific internal medicine internship position at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists (LPVS), starting the 1st of July 2025 until the end of June 2026.
We are seeking a proactive and professional individual with strong interpersonal and time-management skills to join our Internal Medicine service consisting of four ECVIM-CA and two ACVIM diplomates, one board-eligible medicine clinician, one oncology diplomate, and three internal medicine residents. The team is supported by a team of skilled registered veterinary nurses, including several medicine nurses. Interns must demonstrate a commitment to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care, and have an interest in research as well.
The medicine internship will involve a range of duties to help facilitate the running of the department; including a contribution to inpatient care, consultations, student teaching, assisting with the management of emergencies, supervised primary care responsibility and diagnostic procedures (such as arthrocentesis, feeding tube placement, endoscopy and chemotherapy administration). The role will expose you to medical management of acute and chronic medicine and oncology patients, as well as working within the larger referral team setting. You are expected to be involved in medicine journal clubs and clinical research. The role would prepare the candidate well for entry into an approved residency training programme should this be a personal goal. We plan to open a new internal medicine residency position at the end of this internship, although completion of the internal medicine internship itself does not guarantee a residency position afterwards.
Prior completion of a rotating internship, or a minimum of two years in small animal practice in the UK is considered essential. We expect that candidates will have excellent standards of written and spoken English. Roles are full-time (40 hour week) with an expectation of 1:4 weekends on call and 1 weekday night on call, both with senior clinician back-up. This role also includes a limited out of hours coverage for a total of 3 weeks of night shifts. A week of night shifts is always followed by a full week off to recover. We offer a very generous remuneration and CPD package for internships.
We hold medicine team social events and pride ourselves on not only looking after our patients but also each other. Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists (LPVS) are committed to supporting the wellbeing of staff and our wellness programme includes an Employee Assistance Programme with Health Assured, an optional health shield cash plan, Mental Health First Aiders and Wellbeing Champions within the practice.

Shortlisting of candidates and interviews will occur shortly after. Applicants should already have the right to work in the UK and be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS).
