CVS Referrals

Let’s find a career in referrals

Who We Are

Our nine specialist-led referral hospitals provide multi-disciplinary care for more complex cases. Employing internationally renowned veterinary specialists, who focus in on their specialist area, they have exceptional facilities and diagnostic equipment. This allows the development of new specialist treatments, cutting edge clinical advances and a higher level of specialist care to our clients and their pets.

We are a collaborative network of hospitals benefitting from close ties across the CVS Referral Group. All support our local first opinion practices with advice and many of our specialists can be found in our first opinion practices offering training or in some cases doing outreach clinics.

We also offer residencies in a number of disciplines as well as internships across the division.

Referrals roles

Our Referrals hospitals house state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and diagnostic tools. We have a large team of internationally-renowned Specialists who offer the latest treatments in all companion animal disciplines; general surgery, orthopaedics, neurology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, oncology, dentistry, anaesthesia, analgesia, imaging and critical care. Our Specialists are supported by residents, interns and registered veterinary nurses. There is a multi-disciplinary approach, with an entire team around every patient to ensure the highest standard of care.

Our residents and interns develop their clinical skills and knowledge via case management and participate in clinical research - under the supervision of our Specialists. Our large network of referral practices and support services allows residents to gain additional experience at other sites. CVS offers an environment where residents can thrive having the support and resources to excel both academically and clinically.

Our referral nursing roles are wide and varied. They incorporate inpatient care, emergency and critical care, working on cases from across all disciplines alongside our Specialists, ensuring patient treatment plans are in place for more advanced cases and procedures, administering treatments and medications as directed, and working alongside our specialist ward teams. Career progression is encouraged, with generous CPD allowances and opportunities for clinical research and teaching.

Enthusiastic individuals with a passion for animals make great Patient Care Assistants. The PCA role is one of the clinical foundations of an outstanding veterinary hospitals. Our PCAs are involved in supporting our team of qualified RVNs to provide outstanding care to our patients, including out-patient care. Many of our PCAs go on to be veterinary nurses.

Our Theatre Technicians get to work in state-of-the-art theatres and prep areas, with Registered Veterinary Nurses, Patient Care Assistants and Specialist vets. They assist with; preparing patients for theatre - including clipping and surgical prep; setting up, and preparing equipment and instruments ready for surgery and procedures; and, running the theatre. They also work with our labs and ultrasound teams. Ideally Theatre Technicians have previous experience working in a busy theatre environment - either in the human or veterinary medicine. Training is also provided by friendly and supportive teams of nurses, patient care assistants and specialists.

Keeping everything running smoothly, these individuals are the backbone of our hospitals. They undertake and maintain all administration processes, protocols and procedures - performing a wide range of tasks from processing client documentation and payments, looking after the premises, supporting with health & safety, and managing the hospital’s social media.

Our valued receptionists are the client face and voice of our hospitals. On the front line, they regularly act as the key point-of-contact for clients and play a huge role in organising the workload of a hospital, including referred cases. We offer regular sessions to support our receptionists, where team members collaborate, share experiences and support one-another.
