The CVS Equine division provides a complete range of industry-leading veterinary services to patients and clients in 21 sites across the UK.
Our ambulatory veterinary surgeons are supported by a team of over 20 recognised Veterinary Specialists in fields including internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, sports medicine, reproduction and diagnostic imaging. Based within a network of referral centres, the Specialist team provides a first-class service to referring vets and a multi-disciplined approach to the treatment of all equines, from donkeys and pleasure horses to elite athletes.
Through an unrivalled commitment to investment in equipment, facilities and research, all of our practices are able to offer the latest veterinary treatments, diagnostic services, advice, standards and support.
CVS Equine is an open, cooperative and collaborative environment where our practices work together and support each other.
Our Clinical Directors lead and support our equine practice teams. The role is open to qualified equine veterinary surgeons already in leadership or experienced vets with a desire to progress into a management role. Our Clinical Directors are supported by a wide equine vet clinical network throughout our division.
Our vets are ambulatory and clinic based - allowing them to work up cases fully. We have the best mobile and practice equipment to assist investigations such as; mobile DR, ultrasound, endoscope, Sarcoid Laser Surgery and advanced dental equipment. Vets are supported by nurses, technicians and specialist vets on complex cases. Our Equine Vet Career Progression Framework offers a pathway over four levels and we encourage CPD to improve the skillset of our vets.
An 18-month internship programme rotates on a weekly basis through anaesthesia, medicine, surgery and diagnostic orthopaedics. There will also be an element of on call duties. Interns will be trained to perform the duties of the job by senior interns, senior vets and the nursing team. They are also enrolled on the CVS New Graduate Programme which allows for 10 days of funded CPD per year.
The operational anchor for our equine practices, our Practice Directors and Managers recruit, train and supervise team members. They play a huge role managing the day-to-day operations and ensuring the delivery of a first-class client experience. From a veterinary or non-veterinary background they normally have management or leadership experience.
We encourage our equine nurses to be the nurse they trained to be! CVS Equine offers an exciting and varied caseload and career development with our internal Equine Nursing Career Pathway, including the ability to move into management roles. We promote skills development and encourage our nurses to develop their clinical interests within the team and work up cases on yard as much as they can.
These roles include a wide variety of work: setting up and caring for equipment and assist vets in all duties at client's yards; driving to client's yards to transport equipment; managing the pharmacy including orders, stocktakes and auditing; plus administration duties such as follow up payments and credit control. They’re ideal for those keen to help the practice grow and support the team.
Our yard staff and grooms help look after, support and maintain patient care and the surrounding environment. This includes yard duties such as mucking out, grooming and preparing feeds - which must be undertaken to the highest of standards with attention to detail. All candidates should be experienced and confident working with a variety of horses of all ages, with good horse-handling skills essential.
Our valued receptionists are the backbone of our practices. On the front line, they regularly act as the key point-of-contact for clients and play a huge role in organising the workload of a practice, including triaging cases. We offer regular sessions to support our receptionists, where team members collaborate, share experiences and support one-another.
