Neurology and Neurosurgery Internship - at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists (Alton) August 2025
LPVS is a specialist-led multidisciplinary referral hospital providing veterinary referral services across the South of England including London, the South Coast and the Thames Valley. Our services include neurology and neurosurgery (three ECVN diplomates, two board-eligible neurologists and one ECVN resident), orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery (four ECVS diplomates, two board-eligible surgeons and two ECVS residents), internal medicine (four ECVIM diplomates, one ACVIM diplomates, and two ECVIM residents), emergency and critical care (one ACVECC diplomate); alongside dermatology (ECVD diplomate), diagnostic imaging (two ECVDI diplomates and two ECVDI diplomates), oncology (ACVIM diplomate), cardiology and physiotherapy.
Facilities include on-site Siemens 1.5T MRI, 16 slice computed tomography, endoscopy suite, ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, digital X-ray and dedicated chemotherapy room. The hospital is an ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic and was awarded the BVHA design award for an outstanding working environment. We are part of CVS (UK) Ltd, the largest provider of integrated veterinary services in the UK, and are supported by services from seven other referral hospitals in the UK and Ireland. We are proud to host final-year university of Surrey students on their intra-mural rotations in small animal referral practice and a number of our team hold visiting academic roles with the university.
We are seeking proactive, professional individuals with positive attitudes at all times. Outstanding interpersonal skills, and an ability to stay calm under pressure and work as a team are essential. Interns must also demonstrate a commitment to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care.
The internship will involve a range of duties to help facilitate the running of the department; including a contribution to inpatient care, consultations, student teaching, assisting with the management of emergencies, supervised primary care responsibility, participation in an out-of-hours rota, involvement with diagnostic procedures and surgeries. The role will expose you to training in the medical and surgical management of patients as well as working within a referral team setting. You will be encouraged to be involved in clinical research. The role would prepare you well for entry into an approved residency training programme in your chosen discipline.
Prior completion of a rotating internship, or a minimum of two years of experience in small animal practice in the UK is considered essential. We expect that candidates will have excellent standards of written and spoken English. Roles are full-time (40 hour week) with an expectation of 1:3 weekends on call. We offer a salary of £32,000 and a very generous remuneration and CPD package for internships.
