We are excited to offer a three-year clinical training post that will take place at Bristol Vet Specialists, Bristol, UK. You will be supervised and supported by A ECVD Dermatologist who will provide basic science and clinical training in veterinary dermatology which will enable you to achieve the standard necessary to obtain the ECVD Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology after completion of the programme.
The Dermatology service is also composed of 1 ECVD Diplomat (Natalie Barnard), an RCVS advanced practitioner in Veterinary dermatology, a certificate holder in Veterinary dermatology and dedicated nurse currently training for his VTS in Dermatology. The residency training program has been approved by the ECVD education committee in March 2025.
Bristol Vet Specialists offers a state-of-the-art specialist-led Dermatology service alongside a multidisciplinary team of veterinary specialists in internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, imaging, dermatology, dentistry and ophthalmology. Bristol Vet Specialists is in a newly purpose-built state-of-the-art hospital in Avonmouth and possess advanced medical equipment (including a LINAC machine for radiation therapy treatment). There is also a highly experienced nursing team. We receive cases from all over the country and give the assurance of exceptional care to all of our patients. The dermatology service is also composed of Three team members including a dedicated nurse. The residency training program has been approved by the ECVD education committee in March 2025.
As a dermatology resident you will receive training in all aspects of veterinary dermatology and will also be expected to participate in dermatological research. In addition, there is a requirement to attend and present at scientific meetings.
Personal specification for application
Along with the qualifications and experience needed the candidate should also have excellent communication skills, be able to work as part of a team and show a dedicated interest and commitment to the field of veterinary dermatology.
If you have these skills and wish to apply for the residency programme, you must be a qualified veterinary surgeon and be eligible for full membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). You must have experience of working as a qualified Veterinary Surgeon in small animal private practice in the UK, in addition to completing a minimum of a one-year rotating internship or have gained equivalent experience in first opinion practice.
