Mark Moreton

Director of Learning and Development

I qualified from the RVC in 2002, and moved back to the South East to join a Small Animal General Practice in Whitstable, Kent.

I really enjoyed the interaction with clients that I found in first opinion work and rapidly became part of the local community.

Over the next few years I developed both my clinical and leadership skills, buying a part of the partnership in 2005. The practice continued to grow, alongside the development of a wider offering of clinical services. I felt passionately that clients should be able to access high quality care at their local practice, so I set about developing my clinical skills to support this, undergoing further training in cardiology and surgery.

In 2017, me and my partners sold the practice to CVS. I continued to work in the practice as Clinical Director until December 2019, when I moved into a regional clinical leadership role.

This brought a whole new area of development into view, and I really enjoyed working with teams across multiple practices, helping them to deliver better care and expand their range of clinical skills and services to clients.

In January 2022, I moved to the role of Small Animal Veterinary Director, taking responsibility for the South of the UK. This introduced me to a whole range of new challenges, including clinical procurement, overall business strategy and attempting to influence behaviour on a national scale. I really enjoyed the challenge, but I missed the opportunity to teach people new skills directly.

In February 2024 I was appointed Director of Learning and Development, giving me the opportunity to lead the team dedicated to developing learning opportunities for all staff across CVS, both clinical and non-clinical. I am now involved in several areas I feel incredibly passionate about, including the CVS New Graduate Programme, Clinical Training for Vets, Nurses and Patient Care Assistants and Leadership training.

I have remained in clinical work throughout this time, being supported to continue working one day a week in practice.

I feel incredibly lucky to have had such an interesting career with CVS so far, and I am really enjoying learning new skills every day as my journey continues.
