Residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia – Bristol Vet Specialists

We are opening a three-year clinical training post in Anaesthesia and Analgesia at Bristol Vet Specialists, Bristol, UK. 

BVS is a large specialist-led, referral-only hospital located in Bristol (Bristol Vet Specialists: Leading Veterinary Care). We offer the full complement of specialist veterinary referral services including a very active Cardiology service, Dentistry, Dermatology, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Soft Tissue Surgery. Our state-of-the-art purpose-built hospital has MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, radiotherapy unit (with a linear accelerator), 5 theatres, canine and feline ICUs. 

You will be joining a team of six ECVAA diploma-holders, two anaesthesia residents and a large anaesthesia nursing team. We work with B&W Equine Hospital and Bristol Zoo to provide an anaesthesia service and comply with the ECVAA requirements.  

Personal specification for application 

A proactive, professional approach and a positive attitude at all times, together with outstanding interpersonal skills, an ability to stay calm under pressure, great teamwork skills, and a commitment to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care is required. 

As per ECVAA pre-residency requirements, candidates must have completed at least a one-year rotating internship or have at least two years' experience in general practice. An additional specialised internship in anaesthesia is desirable, but not essential. Experience in equine anaesthesia will also be valuable. The candidate must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
