Veterinary Clinical Pathologist

Location: On-site, hybrid, or remote.

Employment: Permanent.

Hours: Full time. 40 per week (negotiable, part-time working considered).

Shift Pattern: Monday – Friday, some Saturday work may be required on a rota basis.

Our Laboratory Division consists of two laboratories (Finn Pathologists and AXIOM Laboratories) and is dedicated to providing the highest quality veterinary diagnostic services. Our large clinical pathology team comprises pathologists with ACVP, ECVCP, and FRCPath qualifications. We are committed to continually invest in new technologies and equipment, and also support research projects and undertake collaborations with various educational and commercial stakeholders to advance our knowledge in the fields of veterinary diagnostic testing.

The Role:

Due to increasing workload, we are looking for a dynamic and service orientated clinical pathologist with diagnostic laboratory experience. In this role, you would be expected to:

• Be responsible for examination of digitally processed cytology and haematology submissions, with occasional requirement for reporting of electrophoresis, biochemistry/endocrinology profiles, and bone marrow histology cases.
• Prepare and issue clinical pathology reports ensuring high scientific standards are met and delivered in a timely way to meet the turnaround of results.
• Contribute on a rotational basis to pathology duties, assisting with client queries and supporting the wider team with administrative objectives.
• Consult and assist other pathologists in performing cytology/haematology caseloads and interact with and provide advice to laboratory personnel.
• Answer queries relating to your own case reports by phone or e-mail from referring clinicians and advise on further testing, where appropriate.
• Assist with providing required pathology training to our residents, and also specialist residents from other disciplines during externship placements. Some potential opportunities for undergraduate teaching of final year veterinary students.
• Promote the growth of the laboratory division by participating in meetings and developing professional relationships.

Candidate eligibility, essential qualifications and profile:

• The candidate should hold active membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS)
• Board certification in veterinary clinical pathology (DipECVCP, DACVP, FRCPath, or equivalent) is essential
• They will have excellent inter-personal skills, with an ability to communicate well with other team members, staff and clients, and to work as part of a team
• They will have good personal organisational skills and an ability to work well under pressure

In addition, our pathologists can apply for CVS-funded research, either independently or in collaboration.
