B&W Equine Hospital are looking for a proactive and diligent individual with a passion for providing gold-standard care to work as our Inpatient Nurse. You will be involved in the care of both elective and intensive patients, including sick neonatal foals during the breeding season.
The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent efficiency and time management in order to carry out treatments and nursing interventions as delegated by the veterinary team. The Inpatient Nurse will work to maintain communication between all hospital teams regarding patient care and tasks.
You must uphold an unequivocal work ethic and an empathetic approach, always advocating for the patients. Attention to detail is key for this role.
The ideal candidate must be a Registered Equine Veterinary Nurse with adequate experience in patient care within the hospital setting and a keen desire to continue developing their knowledge. Experience in neonatal care would be beneficial as we have a growing foal case load. You will be expected to actively provide training and support for other team members and seek further CPD opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Attend morning rounds and complete appropriate paperwork
Formulate a plan with interns and clinicians for the day regarding inpatients
Communicate plan and any changes to all hospital's teams
Implement feeding plans and changes in feeding routines for yard staff to follow
Ensure husbandry needs of the patients are met including walking out patients to grass, grooming and bathing
Passive and active physio
Assist with morning reassessments of medical and surgical inpatients
Carry out bandage changes and communicate status of wounds/surgical sites effectively
Carry out nursing interventions and follow treatment plans for all intensive care patients
Perform effective clinical examinations, pain scoring and nursing assessments
Implement changes in patient care in an efficient manner, communicating with clinicians where necessary
Preparation and administration of medications
Keep nurses' board up to date and perform efficient handovers to the on-call team.
Maintain areas used for inpatient care in a tidy manner
Help maintain consistent gold standards of inpatient care across the team maintaining, reviewing and implementing protocols where appropriate.
Play an active role in M&M Rounds and implement actions if necessary
Help perform training and CPD for other members of the clinical team regarding patient care E.g., neonatal care, fluid therapy.
Act as a supporting role to inpatient intern and clinicians regarding inpatient care
