Internal Medicine (Small Animal) Internship at Bristol Vet Specialists

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual, who is committed to practicing the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care and who would relish the opportunity to further his/her/their career in small animal Internal Medicine and improve his/her/their knowledge base and technical skills. Our internship programme aims to nurture the best and brightest Veterinary Surgeons to serve as the foundations and grassroots for future generations as well as prepare them for advanced postgraduate training programmes such as residencies.

 

The Internal Medicine internship at Bristol Veterinary Specialists is a 12-month fixed-term position. In this exciting role you will work under the supervision of and support of our Internal Medicine team, which comprises of 5 European Specialists and 1 American Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine, 2 Internal Medicine residents, 4 dedicated Internal Medicine procedure nurses and 1 patient care assistant. In your role you will provide support for cases seen by clinicians/residents but also have primary responsibility of your own cases, including their follow-up.

 

BVS is a large specialist-led, referral-only hospital located in Bristol. This facility offers a broad range of specialist veterinary referral services including Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Cardiology, Dentistry, Dermatology, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Soft Tissue Surgery. With state-of-the-art equipment and highly experienced nursing teams, we receive cases from all over the country, with the assurance of exceptional care to all our patients. We have a dedicated ICU, radiotherapy unit and a varied and interesting caseload. We have 8 rotating interns and 4 discipline specific interns (this includes this role), who you will work with on a 1-in-4 weekend day duty rota.

Personal specification for application

To have a proactive, professional approach, a positive attitude at all times, have outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure, work well within the team, display excellent communication skills, be able to manage a high caseload, along with a commitment to practicing the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care is required.

You must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) and have a minimum of twelve months experience working as a qualified Veterinary Surgeon in small animal practice in the UK. Candidates should also have previously undertaken a rotating internship in a specialist hospital.

 

Salary & Benefits

Bristol Vet Specialists provides one of the most exceptional salary and benefits packages available to interns. In addition to a salary (£32,000 per annum), you will have 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, two days off following your 1-in-4 weekend shift (one day before the weekend and one day after), RCVS and VDS membership, company contributory pension scheme and other company fringe benefits.
