We are excited to offer a ‘specialist' intern position at Bristol Vet Specialists, starting on 1st July 2026.
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated veterinary surgeons, with at least 12 months of experience working in general practice, committed to practising the highest standards of medicine and surgery, that would relish the opportunity to further their career, improve their knowledge base and technical skills in neurology and neurosurgery.
This will be a fixed one-year position at our hospital.
You will be supervised and supported by three specialists' neurologists and part of a team of nine (three specialists, one residency trained neurologist, two residents and three neurology nurses).
Bristol Vet Specialists offers a state-of-the-art specialist neurology and neurosurgery service alongside a multidisciplinary team of veterinary specialists in internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, emergency and critical care, imaging, dermatology, dentistry and ophthalmology. Bristol Vet Specialists is in a newly purpose-built state-of-the-art hospital in Avonmouth and possess advanced medical equipment (including a LINAC machine for radiation therapy treatment), a separate feline centre, 1.5 Tesla MRI, CT, 5 theatres, ICU and an incredible team of referral nurses and support staff. We receive cases from all over the country and give the assurance of exceptional care to all our patients.
You will spend most of your time rotating with the neurology team, where you will be actively involved in cases, learning about neurology and neurosurgery.
There will be 1-in-4-weekend on call (with recovery time after these) where you will need to cover 12 hour shifts during the day (Saturday and Sunday – all disciplines); you will have the support of our wonderful patient care assistants, nurses, specialists in training and specialists (we have specialists in every discipline on call daily), so you will never be without support! During your year with us, you will have access to:
· Weekly seminars delivered to you by our specialists and specialists in training
· Weekly journal clubs run by the neurology service
· Book clubs and morbidity and mortality rounds
You will have the opportunity to present your work at these seminars / meetings too. You will also be assigned a mentor and clinical supervisor to provide guidance and support specific to you. We highly value the importance of looking after our employees' mental health and our internship leads are both qualified mental health first aiders.
Salary and benefits
In addition to a £32,000 per annum salary, you will have 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, £1,000 CPD allowance over a period of 5-days, RCVS and VDS membership.
