3 year Oncology Residency

Bristol Veterinary Specialists is recruiting an ECVIM-CA Oncology Resident to join our busy medical and radiation oncology service. The successful candidate will be joining three board-certified/board-eligible specialists in medical oncology, one in radiation oncology, two other oncology residents and one specialist intern, as well as a supporting team of three oncology veterinary nurses, therapeutic radiographers and patient care assistants.  We have a brand-new hospital with state-of-the-art oncology facilities including an Elekta 6MV linear accelerator capable of intensity-modulated and stereotactic treatments.

Bristol Vet Specialists is an expanding multi-disciplinary referral hospital based in Avonmouth, near Bristol, with specialists in oncology, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic surgery, neurology, dermatology, cardiology, maxillofacial surgery and ophthalmology.  We have a number of existing residency and internship positions (in internal medicine, neurology, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology and surgery) and there is a collegial, multi-disciplinary team approach to case management.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic and highly motivated in veterinary oncology, committed to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care, and who would relish the opportunity to further their career in a specialist training program.

We are proud that our residency program offers generous tuition, and time off clinics in excess of the ECVIM-CA minimum.  Residents' training includes weekly attendance at journal club, book club, cytology rounds, imaging rounds, and other seminars on a variety of subjects. The successful candidate will be expected to present at these seminars, which will serve as preparation for external presentations at conferences.  Additionally the resident will receive £5000 funding for an allocated research project from the first year in order to develop it during the residency; previous residents have won awards for their research at international conferences.

Visits to the hospital before the interview date are encouraged.

Personal specification for application

A strong commitment to the field of veterinary oncology needs to be demonstrated, along with completion of a rotating internship or equivalent time in high-quality small animal practice. Completion of an additional, specialist oncology internship is also desirable, but not essential.  Applicants must be an MRCVS by the date the position starts, and ideally by the date of application and interview.
