Registered Veterinary Nurse / Referral Coordinator

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join the team at Macqueen Vets as a Referral Coordinator. The role will be two days a week (Mondays & Thursdays) but we may also be able to offer some additional clinical shifts alongside this role. 

We are an RCVS approved veterinary practice with ICC Gold Cat-Friendly status. We have on-site CT scanner, laparoscopy, endoscopy and ultrasound.. We have been a respected Orthopaedic referral practice for 30 years and now offer soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, cardiology and ophthalmology referrals.

We are a friendly team of 15 qualified nurses, many with additional qualifications and skills. Our nursing, vet and reception team are experienced, friendly and supportive.

Key responsibilities:

  • Building rapport with referring practices through acceptance of referrals, advice requests, general enquiries including accurate estimates
  • Supporting clients throughout their entire referral journey from initial referral all the way to discharge once the final sign off
  • Managing the referral diary and assisting the referral vets in managing their workload (including management of Ophthalmology clinic, Physiotherapy clinic and Cardiology clinic)
  • Oversee pricing of referral patients and ensure the pricing protocol is correctly adhered to
  • Preparation of Referral reports and ensuring effective communication with referring practices
  • Support all vets including co-ordinating external referrals, telemedicine requests and external advice requests
  • Work closely with Lead nurses and Receptionist to ensure the smooth running of both the general practice and referral division including both operations and consults
  • Hold regular referral meetings, take appropriate notes and orchestrate required follow up
  • Plan and implement appropriate marketing campaigns as agreed with the referral team
  • Assist with auditing as required
  • Create up-to-date resources for colleagues and owners as required
  • Assist the organisation of events and initiatives such as CPD, open evenings and follow your case.

 

Key Skills Required:

  • Must be registered with the RCVS as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent communication to internal and external customers (both written and verbal)
  • Self-motivated and motivational to others
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach to tasks
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to record and document clear accurate information
  • Ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with difficult situations
  • Knowledge of referral procedures
  • Computer skills including Microsoft, Excel and Power point
