We are excited to offer a three-year clinical training post that will take place at Bristol Vet Specialists, Bristol, UK, to start in July 2027.  You will be supervised and supported by four ECVN-boarded specialist neurologists to prepare you for the ECVN diploma examination after completion of the programme.

Bristol Vet Specialists offers a state-of-the-art specialist neurology and neurosurgery service alongside a multidisciplinary team of veterinary specialists in internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, imaging, dermatology, dentistry and ophthalmology. Bristol Vet Specialists (previously Highcroft Vet Referrals) is located in a newly purpose built state-of-the-art hospital in Avonmouth and possess advanced medical equipment (including a LINAC machine for radiation therapy treatment). There is a highly experienced nursing team. We receive cases from all over the country and give the assurance of exceptional care to all of our patients. The neurology service is composed of 4 ECVN-boarded diplomats, a neurology resident, a neurology intern and three nurses with a dedicated role to the running of the service. The residency training program has been approved by the ECVN education committee in April 2019.

Personal specification for application

A proactive, professional approach and a positive attitude at all times,  together with outstanding interpersonal skills, an ability to stay calm under pressure, great team work skills, and a commitment to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care is required.

If you have these skills and wish to apply for the residency programme, you must be a qualified veterinary surgeon and be eligible for full membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). 

A minimum of twelve months experience working as a qualified Veterinary Surgeon in small animal private practice in the UK is essential. We expect that candidates will have completed a minimum of a one-year rotating internship or have gained equivalent experience in first opinion practice. There is a need to conduct research projects as part of the residency requirements and therefore an interest in research is desirable.
