 About CVS Vets

Joining a CVS Vets practice is more than starting a job—it's the beginning of a long-term career with one of the UK's leading veterinary groups.

With 500+ practices nationwide and 8,000+ colleagues, CVS Vets offers a supportive, collaborative environment where learning, wellbeing, and patient care come first. Our shared purpose is simple but powerful: to deliver the very best care to animals, every day.

When you join CVS Vets, you become part of a community that truly values your contribution and invests in your future.

About the Role

As a Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN), you'll be an essential part of our clinical team, supporting our Vets and Registered Veterinary Nurses in delivering exceptional care to patients and clients alike.

This role combines practical, hands‑on learning within the practice with structured study, including attendance at college one day per week to support your veterinary nursing qualification.

You'll be working alongside a friendly, experienced team who are committed to helping you develop your skills, confidence, and professional knowledge throughout your training.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high standards of nursing care to patients
  • Assisting Vets and Nurses with animal handling and restraint
  • Feeding, exercising, and caring for in-patients
  • Preparing operating theatres and emergency equipment
  • Running internal laboratory samples
  • Maintaining clinical cleanliness and infection control standards
  • Handling emergency calls
  • Supporting reception duties, including client queries, appointment booking, and payment processing

Who We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Excellent communication skills with a kind, empathetic approach
  • Strong customer service skills and confidence dealing with the public
  • Experience or knowledge of animal care, including handling, feeding, cleaning, and medicating
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to manage challenging situations
  • A positive, can‑do attitude and strong teamwork skills
  • Previous experience in a veterinary environment (desirable but not essential)

Required Qualifications

You'll need one of the following:

  • Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English, Maths, and a Science

OR

  • An Animal Nursing Assistant (ANA) or Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) qualification, plus Functional Skills Level 2 in Application of Number and Communication

What We Offer You

We believe in supporting our people just as much as our patients. In return for your dedication, you'll receive:

  • Salary will be aligned with National Minimum Wage
  • 5 weeks' annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Staff discount on Animed Direct, our online dispensary, where you can benefit from discounts on pet medicines, products and food
  • Staff discount scheme on Veterinary bills and care
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and a network of over 400 Mental Health First Aiders
  • Career development opportunities within CVS Vets—and much more
  • And lots more, as part of our commitment to help you feel recognised, supported and appreciated!
