Role Details:

Location: To be based from our Hospital - Unit A1, Priestley Road, Wardley Business Park, Worsley, Manchester, M28 2LY

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 38.5 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Variety of days and nights, 6am-6pm and 6pm-6am.

About the Role:

The Ambulance Manager plays an essential role in the seamless operation of our patient transportation, ensuring that sick, injured, or distressed animals are transported safely, timely, and compassionately. This managerial position requires a blend of operational leadership, logistical coordination, staff management, and a profound commitment to animal welfare advocacy.

 

People Management

  • Line Management: Oversee the ambulance team, managing check-ins, handling holiday requests, performance management, shift planning, overtime submissions, and arranging cover for absences
  • Team Coordination: Organize and coordinate drivers daily to ensure efficient coverage and service delivery
  • Relationship Building
  • Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with team members through suitable channels

Client Liaison

  • Record Management
  • Financial Oversight: Handle pricing and invoicing 

Clinical Oversight

  • Patient Care: Ensure the highest standards of care for all transported animals.
  • Service Auditing: Audit services provided, focusing on paperwork completion, animal care, husbandry, and transportation.
  • Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Organize vehicle maintenance and monitor safety checks, van hygiene, and cleanliness. Arrange maintenance of handling equipment and kennelling facilities.
  • Housing Management

Commercial Management

  • Financial Awareness
  • Procedural Knowledge: Obtain working knowledge of all company procedures and attend necessary training sessions.
  • Risk Management: Review risk assessments and manage risk.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Conduct weekly and monthly emergency equipment tests, including building and emergency light tests 
  • Change Management: Respond positively to changes and ensure a clear understanding of the reasons behind decisions.
  • Service Promotion: Advance and promote services, identifying gaps in current offerings.
  • Resource Management: Ensure the responsible use of resources and control expenses.

Key Skills Required

  • Animal Handling Experience: Experience working with animals, ideally in a veterinary or dog handling setting
  • Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of Word, Excel, and ProVet
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail in organizational and administrative tasks
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to use tact and discretion in difficult situations
  • Industry Knowledge and Understanding
  • Driving Skills: Full driving license with an ability to drive a manual vehicle and support a team
  • Stress Management: Ability to work effectively under pressure
