Bristol Veterinary Specialists is recruiting an Oncology Patient Care Assistant to join our busy medical and radiation oncology service. The successful candidate will be joining 2 board-certified specialists in medical oncology, two oncology residents and three specialist nurses.
This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, covering Monday-Friday with 1:4 weekends.
We have a brand-new hospital with a dedicated oncology prep room, procedures room and kennel space, as well as a state-of-the-art Elekta 6MV linear accelerator capable of advanced image-guided treatments. Covering over 30,000 square feet, it is custom-built with uniquely designed facilities and the latest cutting-edge equipment.
With Specialists in all disciplines able to treat anything and everything under one roof, the hospital acts as a flagship hub for small animal pet owners in the Southwest and Wales. Our excellent location is easily accessible from major motorways – M5, M4, M49.
The Patient Care Assistant role is one of the foundations of an outstanding veterinary practice, as a PCA you would be involved in supporting our team of qualified RVNs and Vets to provide outstanding care to our patients, working alongside a lovely team of people. This role will involve animal handling, assisting vets and nurses in restraining animals for treatment, cleaning, walking and feeding patients, general cleaning and maintenance duties, answering phone calls, reception cover, greeting clients and providing the highest standards of animal and customer care.
We are looking for someone who really cares about animals. Our ideal candidate will have had some experience with animals before, ideally in a practice or hospital setting, have excellent communication skills and be a real team player.
Main duties:
Nursing care to patients
Assisting vets and nurses in restraining animals for treatment
Cleaning, walking, and feeding of patients
Preparation of emergency and operating facilities
General cleaning and maintenance duties
Running internal lab samples
Answering emergency calls
Covering the receptionist desk, including answering queries, booking appointments and taking payments
